My ceramics journey began with an idea to make a ceramic chess set for my brother’s Christmas present. My best friend’s mother, Marlene, an incredible ceramicist herself (Muddy Plum Pottery), was kind enough to lend me her studio and knowledge. Over several weeks and many iterations, my brother’s chess set came to life.

Soon after, I started a new job, working for a children’s charity that just so happened to have a pottery studio on site. I made it my aim to learn more about ceramics so I could share it with others and teach kids new skills. During my time there, I grew to love pottery, and I became more confident designing, throwing and finishing a wide range of ceramics.

A year later, I made another exciting career change and learned that not all employers have pottery studios (shocking, I know). I felt as if I were missing a part of myself, so I started attending Isle of Man Art Society ceramics classes. These amazing classes scratched my ceramics itch; however, I realised that in time I would need to invest in my own ceramics studio.

In 2025 I invested in a pottery wheel and a kiln and built myself my own ceramics studio. I spent time designing and creating my own range of products before selling them to the public. I began selling my ceramics on Instagram and at fairs, and I was shocked by the positive feedback and demand for my work. Which brings me to now… and the creation of JFC Ceramics, an online shop where you can buy my handmade ceramics, made in my studio on the Isle of Man.
